during school
They probably want to sleep through school.

During REM sleep, people seldom dream.
People need sleep for energie! And to stay alive and get rested. If not, they shall not be able to get through the day. 12-8 hours of sleep is a good amount.
Sleeping during the day can disrupt your body's natural circadian rhythm and make it harder to fall asleep at night. It can also lead to feeling groggy and less alert during the day, affecting productivity and performance. Additionally, long daytime naps may reduce the amount of deep, restorative sleep obtained at night, which can impact overall sleep quality.
Most people do; some people dribble on the pillow
It is perfectly fine to sleep immediately after school as long as you are not oversleeping or under-sleeping. Adults and teenagers require at least 8 hours of sleep per night to be healthy. While studies have shown that people function better when they sleep at night and wake during the day, it isn't crucial for survival.
rem sleep
Truly "deep" sleep does not occur during REM sleep. REM sleep is when you are dreaming. It is deeper than light sleep, but not as far down in unconsciousness as "deep" sleep.
People in the 1900s slept an average of nine hours a night. In the 1970s the average amount of sleep was down to seven hours.
