When I put my rusted ligature (instrument piece) into Hydrogen peroxide it bubbled a lot and made it easier to remove the rust but it does not fully get the rust off on its own.

Keep it dry! This is the single best advice i can give to you. Also make sure you get rust proof furniture. After you have rust it is very difficult to get rid of it. Sand it down and paint it with an out door metal paint. Also you can try using a simple oil to help prevent you furniture from rusting.
