Diet and exercise. It's far easier to loose weight if you avoid sugars and starches. When starch is digested, the body turns it to sugar in the bloodstream. Sugar causes an insulin spike which lowers blood sugar, making you very hungry withing an hour or two. There have been some interesting studies that indicate that avoiding sugar altogether can help you control your appetite far better. Diet should remain low sugar/starch, eat plenty of veggies and low fat protein, mainly fish & chicken or turkey and drink a lot of water. Don't necessarily count calories, but do lower fats and sugars. Exercise should be at least 30 to 45 minutes per day, three days per week AT LEAST. Jog, cycle, play raquetball, tennis or whatever it takes to work up a good sweat and get your blood pumping. Make sure you don't get out of breath, but exercise just up to that point. Remember that muscles burn fat, so you don't want to diet to the point that you start loosing muscle. You also want to keep the protein level up enough that your body doesn't rob muscle to get the protein it needs to make repairs. It turns out that a diet that is TOO low in calories/protein can end up making you loose weight more slowly and since muscle mass is lost during hte process, you are almost certain to gain the weight back. The good news is, at your age, if your health is normal, you should be able to loose weight without too much difficulty. But learn to be a label reader. Sugar and starch is hidden in places you wouldn't expect.
The best way to lose weight is to increase activity, especially cardio exercises such as walking or running. Couple this with a healthy diet low in carbohydrates and you will see a healthy weight loss. Consult a medical professional before beginning any diet or exercise routine.
The simple answer is to measure Calories eaten versus calories used. If you eat more than you burn you will gain weight. On the opposite side, if you burn more than you eat you will lose weight.
In general, crash diets, fad diets, and any diet that you hate will not give you consistent results. These diets are difficult to follow and it will be hard to maintain any consistent results. You should make small livestyle changes in regard to your eating habits. Begin by cutting your portions down during meal time. Start with smaller sizes, then limit junk food intake, and go easy on the fast food.
For exercise, just like diet, you need to make it part of your lifestyle. Begin by just walking for 30 minutes a day 3-4 days a week. Then, as you feel comfortable with that, start running. And eventually, once the weight comes off, tone your muscles by doing some weight work.
But remember, all of this needs to be part of your daily life. You will not see lasting results if you are inconsistent with your workouts or splurging on food everyday. Make it part of your routine.

1 pound = 1 pound
Pounds is a unit of weight already. One pound of ANYTHING is one pound. Please try again.
Say what? A pound is a unit of weight, not area. Please determine what you're trying to convert and post a new question.
1 gram is far less than an ounce or pound
it is a pound of everything. so all will have the same weight.
Yes.
Any faster than about 1 pound per week is risky to your health.
Neither, a pound of money please.
A pound is a measurment of weight. The weight of a pound does not change. Therefore, a pound of "fjhfjhdfh" would be equivalent to a pound of "abc" or "xyz", they would all be as heavy as a pound.
A pound
