This may get results in the short term in that the dog acts less reactive, but it doesn't really solve the problem. The two books above discuss techniques for dealing with the underlying emotions and issues so the dog learns to calm himself and feel less reactive. It takes more time to do it this way, but it is more humane and long term is a better solution.
