a hand raised budgie is a budgie that has either been taken away from it's parents at a very early age, or a neglected baby that will die if humans don't step in. it is hand fed and handled a lot, and it grow up trusting humans and are known to be very tame. if you can, it is best to get a hand raised budgie if you only want one and want it to be very cuddly and tame. you can still get one from a pet store, it will just take longer to get used to you.

How can you make your budgie pet tamed?

You will notice that your budgie will be scared of your hand at first. To fix these problems, follow these simple instructions. Step one: Try some millet spray. Hold the millet spray in your hand and slowly move your hand closer to your budgie. While your doing that, talk to your budgie in a quiet and gentle voice. You will see that your budgie will move closer to your hand and trust you more. Step two: Once your budgie is on your hand, try petting it gently. Most budgies like it when rub its chest with your finger. Pairs of budgies to this all the time. This is called "preening". Now that you know these two steps you can care for your budgie well. *Remember, never force your pet to be tamed. It takes time and patience.

Can you hold your budgie?

Yes you can hold your budgie. There are two ways to hold your budgie one way is to carefully put your hands over his/her wings and pick him/her up but I find that most budgies don't like to be held that way. The other way is to put your finger or your hand against his/her stomach and push lightly against it and he/she will step onto it. Your budgie must be tamed for him/her to step on your finger or hand. Have fun holding your budgie.

You try to touch your budgie but it bites softly how would you stop that happening?

Get it to trust your hand before trying to pet it. Everyday put your hand in its cage and rest it there gently. Let the budgie see that the hand is not there to hurt it. Each day put your hand closer to the budgie when you rest it in the cage until one day when you can reach out your finger and the budgie doesn't move away from it. Then gently and very slowly stroke the budgie's chest. This should help it to get used to you touching it within 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the bird. Patience is everything with this. Also, speak softly to the bird when you approach it so it feels at ease.

How do you get a budgie to come onto your hand?

i know when you start to read this answer you will think that i am not going to read all this. but trust me, i am an expert on budgies, i have got 9 budgies, so please read my answer and it really will help. if you want the budgie to come on your hand thsi technique will help, so please give it a try-the following answer will help to get a budgie on to your hand-firstly you have to get the budgie to trust you. if the budgie does not trust you, then reading this answer will be a waste of time. you can get it to trust you by talking to it gently constantly. if you talk to it alot it will get to know your voice, then when you go upto it, it wont be scared because it will recognize your voice. also you need it to stay calm, once it has got to know your voice you can calm it down by gently and softly rubbing its belly so it knows that you are there to reason with it not to attack it. if the budgie does not feel comfortable around you then it will peck you when you try and rub its belly. the pecking is soft. but if you scream or shout when it pecks or touches you, it wont trust you, it will think that your scared of it and that you wont take care of it properly because your scared. once you have carried out all these calm teqniques the budgie will hopefully be comfortable around you.you should carry out these techniques constantly so you know yourself your going to take care of it, and that you know what your doing. all you do to finally get them on your hand is put your hand flat on its perch. the budgie will be next to you. if it trusts you then it will start to put their feet on your hand. then put your hand a bit closer so it can put both feet on. wait a few minutes so it is comfortable on your hand, so then you know its not going to jump out of your hand and it is going to stay on your hand. and to conclude pull your hand away from the perch with the budgie on your hand, that way you know that the budgie is not going to jump on its perch and it has no where to go but to stay on your hand. this technique worked for me and i hope it will work for you too. it will take a bit of time for it to get to know you. as soon as you get your budgie, dont rush into this technique straight away because it needs to get to know your house well and get settled in. maybe after a week try this technique then maybe this technique will work....i hope it does.

Why does your girl budgie attack your new boy budgie and not your old girl budgie?

The girl budgie would attack the new boy budgie and not the old girl budgie because she is used to the other girl budgie and is not familiar to the new boy budgie.
