Because the power of the minicomputer is currently so great (and growing!), it finds application in almost countless military and civilian applications where portability and rugged construction are a must. The military applications include those of the forward observer, and the field commander, just to name two. The sciences enjoy the benefits of this technology as investigators take a mini with them into the field on almost every outing. They've got all the GPS and mapping apps on board (of course), and you can make your field notes right there, including adding pic and vids to the work. Drawings can even be made on them, but you probably knew that. These units are real workhorses for researchers who are out "roughing it" in the wilds and woodlands. We're seeing some folks using the mini in place of a "regular" laptop for school and work. You don't need all the "extras" on the laptop for a few classes, particularly if you have wifi capability to "pull down" other things you might need either from the web or even from your home computer!
