If the server is publicly accessible, type in its domain name from any computer connected to the internet. To access shared items, go to My Network Places under the My Computer. Here you can see all shared files, folders, and printers on your network. To locate, look under My Network Places and the folder you are trying to locate should be accesible from there if all the appropriate measures have been taken.Mapping a network driveOn the host computer, share the drive or folder on a drove to which you want others to have access. On the computer that will use the network drive, open Windows Explorer and click the Tools menu. Select Map Network Drive. The Map Network Drive dialogue box appears. Select a drive letter from the drop-down list (as you can see in the diagram below, I am mapping to a folder named \\othercomputer\sharedfolder\). Click the Browse button and locate the shared folder or drive on the host computer. Click OK to close the dialogue box, and click Finish to map the drive. The shared drive now appears on the Explorer window on the computer.Mapping to a hidden shareFollow the directions for mapping a network drive as listed above, but include the $ at the beginning and end of the drive letter or folder name you wish to share.Hiding your computer from others looking at My Network PlacesIn the Control Panel, open the Administrative Tools applet and double-click Services. Right-click the Computer Browser service and select Properties from the shortcut menu. Under Startup type, select Disabled, and click Apply. When you restart the PC it will not be visible in My Network Places on other computers on the network.Accessing shared printersTo access the shared printer, open My Network Places. Double-click the computer that has the shared printer connected to it. Right-click the printer and select Connect.
There are different kinds of printers. Some of them can be connected directly to network. If you have one of them just to that and then using ip address or name of your printer connect to it. If your printer cannot be connect directly to network, connect to your desktop and in the printer's properties choose share. After that check your network environment for shared printers, when you see what you are looking for double click on it, and you are all set.
