The platen is the part of a machine that one half of a mold attaches to. The mold is normally created in two halves.

In plastic manufacturing injection molding, each mold half is bolted, clamped, attached to one platen. One platen is normally a fixed or non movable and the movable one slides on Tie Bars that go through the four corners of the platen.
