You didn't say what you'd already done or what "loud brakes" really means but if your brakes have a sort of squeal to them it could be one of several things -
1. brake pads are so thin that the rivets, holding the pad to the mountings, are actually rubbing metal to metal on the brake drum - replace the brake pads.
2. it could be carbonized (and powerded) pad material between pad and drum - take a hose and try rinsing out the wheel area and allow to dry before driving
Or
3. back to worn brake pads - the noise could be a depth (or thickness) indicator (a small piece of spring steel) that's usually part of the new pad that gets closer to the drum as the pad wears down and then as the pad gets thin enough, the indicator will start touching the drum and make a squealing sound to let you know that it's time to repalce the pads.
I'm not a mechanic, but these are the sort of things I've run across in the past years.

I would assume it will cost anywhere from $100- $300 to fix your car brakes. Because they are an important part of your car it can be expensive to fix them .
Brakes are designed in such a way as to give off a loud squeel when they are coming to the end of their useful life. If your brakes are squeeling loudly and have been for a while it is a good idea to make plans to look at them.
