Can you test connectivity of circuit using DMM?

Yes. There is a sign of Speaker/sound on a side DMM. Move the knob of DMM on that symbol. Now connect one prob of the DMM on one circuit element & one under that(If you are designing the circuit on PCB or plain board). If a sound come out of that then it means that your circuit element & the portion below that are properly connected.

Can a DMM be used as a simple coax tester?

You can use the DMM to test continuity in the cable.

When measuring resistance a reading of ol on the dmm indicates?

probably overload. which means whatever is being measured is beyond the range of the current scale.

Why is favourable to use the DMM in certain specified ranges?

Digitial multimeter? They appear to give highly accurate readings. Use a DMM on its 200 V range to measure 0.533 V, you'll get a reading of 0.5 - all you know is that the reading is not lower than 0.46 V, and not more than 0.5 V. So 0.553, 0.469. 0.48, 0.54 and 0.5 V will all show as "0.5" on your DMM. Go to the 20 V range, you'll get 0.55, 0.47, 0.48, 0.54 and 0.50. Going to the 2 V range will give 0.533, 0.469, 0.480, 0.540 and 0.500 V indications. Always use the *lowest* range that will not "overload" the meter.

What is the range between 0 to 14?
