It depends on the breed of dog and if you live in a high humidity climate or a State with lots of hot sun like Florida for example. The hottest part of the day (at least in Canada) during the summer peeks at about 5 PM. Places such as Savannah dogs should be kept indoors until evening. If your dog is an outside dog they must have shade and lots of clean water. Dog houses don't count even though they shade the dog, but retain heat. The best method is to bring your dog in at the hottest part of the day (or, if you have a small dog then have a 'doggy door' allowing your pet to come and go as they like while you are at home.) When in doubt bring your dog inside 80 degrees or more and then let them out after it starts to cool down, but always keep an eye on them. If walking bring along a collapsible doggie dish (bought at any pet store) and take a bottle of water with you. NEVER let your dog run along side your bike. Dogs dehydrate quickly like people.

You will not always hear from me what you want to hear, but you will get the answer straight from the heart, remember "Mother nature knows best" animals are not our playthings and should be allowed to live as natural a life as possible. They are not a commodity, accoutrement or accessory to your style.

Why people believe dogs should be kept indoors is beyond me.

Two sheep dogs, brothers, one lives in doors, one outside in a kennel. middle of cold wet winter, farmer nods at dog by fire, come on Fred lets get those sheep in, dog by fire looks up as much to say get lost. Farmer goes outside to Fred's brother Ben in kennel, before he get there Ben is already wagging his tail and only too willing to get to work.

Dogs are wild creatures and I have worked with sled dogs and they can adapt to temperatures down to -40, and will eat meat straight off the back of the sled at whatever the ambient temperature is, that is not to say they can be feed frozen meat from the fridge, it must be ambient temperature. I have also worked with military dog in the desert, they will look for shade in the heat of the day. So to your question cold no problem, heat basically if you can stand it he can, within reasonable limit's. they will dive into an ice covered pond to retrieve a stick, not once but constantly. What is more important is a constant flow of fresh air, and water.

Depends on the dog breed. Dogs with thick coats or double coats meant for the winter can go in cold weather, usually they can deal with -50 below, (celcius.) Of course, that's not exactly recommended. The hairless Chinese Crested will have a problem with anything below freezing, and dogs with short/medium hair can usually go to about -20 to -30 celcius, but some dogs get cold far before then. Puppies aren't exactly good with too cold or too hot, -10 to about +30 for puppies, (still celcius.) Long hair dogs aren't good with too hot of weather. Anything warmer then about +25, +30 is too hot for them. If they look like they're exhausted and are trying to seek shade its probably too hot. Little toy breeds aren't good with the cold, but seem to be able to handle relatively warm temperatures. Depends all on the dog's breed, age, size and coat type. Common sense plays a big part. Don't put a Chow chow in +40 or a Pug in -30.

Probably around 73 year round. In the summer and winter a little heating or cooling of the house is fine.
