Several things can cause your transmission to be stuck in second gear. Broken or detached shifting linkage will cause the problem. A broken shifting for in the transmission can also cause the problem.
I have an Isuzu and i am experiencing the same problem. i was adviced that either the transmission fluid level was low/empty. but there is NO question it's a transmission problem. go get it checked out
change your transmission fluid and transmission filter if the problem persists then your transmission is most likely no good.

If a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis shifting out of second gear gets choppy after acceleration then the overdrive band may need servicing. An overdrive band that is sticking can also cause this problem.
