∙ 15y agoA "staple" grain is a type of edible grain, usually wheat or corn, on which a group of people are dependent for survival and/or nourishment and provides the essential sustenance for those people eating it. For example, a staple grain for the people of Hispanic ethnicity is usually corn, and much of the food of this group is comprised of corn (masa, tortilla, cornmeal, etc.). A staple grain for the America people is most likely the cereal crops, e.g. barley, oats, rye and wheat. Rice is considered the staple grain of much of the world's Asian population.
