I know from expirience that the manual trans has two. One is called the right trans mount, near the motor, and the other is the rear trans mount located directly under the trans. You can use a pry bar the lift up on the trans and see if the mount is broken. the rear mount is about fifty bucks, and is easy to replace, its mounted with only four or five bolts.
Should be under tailshaft on trans.
There is only one transmission mount and it is on the very back of the trans.
Remove nut holding the trans mount to the crossmember jack trans up off of the crossmember then hand wrench bolts out of trans and reverse process.
Yes it could.
towards the rear of the trans it is held up by a metal bracket with approx four bolts holding the plate and the trans mount is held to the trans with one bolt the trans mount is a peice of rubber approx. 2-3 inches sq and about 2-3 in height if you hear a rattle under the seats or you hear the trans banging on metal this could be your problem the cost is about $25 but a shop will say parts and labor about $185 the job is simple to do
It is really very simple. With the car on jacks, I assume you mean the front trans mount, it is round, so is the rear mount, support the engine and just start taking the bolts out that connect the mount. If you have air tools, this will help you with the job, but you can do it without. Once you have the mount in your hand, then just replace it with the new one, only fits one way, then tuck the mount back into place, and bolt to the frame and trans.
the safety switch is on the passenger's side of the transmission. There is a rectangular shaft protruding through a 1" nut. The nut has a safety lock on it to prevent it from loosening. There are two bolts that mount the switch to the trans. The entire assembly is located just forward of the trans mount bracket, on the passenger's side of the trans.
I have found that if your lower trans axle mount has separated from the trans axle the trans axle itself drops down about three to four inches thus taking the trans axle out of alignment making it impossible to shift into reverse.
once you have the bellhousing, any gm trans will bolt up. camaro and firebird trans will require special crossmember.they mount at an angle.
Order a complete swap package. Engine and transmission. The trans that comes with the 4e-fte is stronger than the stock 5e trans. The swap is direct for engine mount and trans mount. You also need to convert your wiring harness for the 4e-fte ECU. Fuel pump upgrade may also be necessary.
The most common problem I have seen is a failed motor or trans mount.
