Trial versions are either limited function versions of a program, or in the case of Adobe, fully functional versions of the program. In all cases there is a specified time frame in which the user has to evaluate the program, and either decide to buy it or dump it.
With Adobe trial versions, if you decide to purchase the program, what you'll get is just a purchased program serial number to enter, which will remove the trial lock. You don't have to uninstall & reinstall a new program.
