A variable transformer is capable of changing its output voltage from 0 to maximum output or over a specific range. It is also named an adjustable transformer.
The Linear Variable Differential Transformer is a type of electrical transformer used for measuring linear displacement. A counterpart to this device that is used for measuring rotary displacement is called a Rotary Variable Differential Transformer.
Transducer is a device which convert physical signal into electrical signal ( current/voltage/resistance). for linear measurement we can use LVDT (Linear Variable Displacement Transducer/ Linear Variable Differential Transformer). and for rotary measurement we can use RVDT (Rotary Variable Differential Transformer)
Yes, but the transformer must have both the hot and neutral to work as designed. A auto-transformer is not a variable resistor that could reduce current/voltage by a change in the resistance which could be used in the hot and or neutral wire. An auto-transformer is designed to have the hot wire and neutral on each end of the winding with a variable tap in between. The resistance of the transformer and the inductance will effect the circuit to a limited way if placed in the neutral but this effect will not vary the voltage over the full range, the amount of voltage reduction will vary with the load's current draw, see ohms law. Neither a resistor or a auto-transformer connected in the neutral line only will increase the voltage above the level of the input like a correctly connected auto-transformer . Stanley
With the possible exception of a variable reluctance transformer, you should always avoid core saturation of any type of transformer. When saturated the magnetic characteristics of the core material is radically changed and the coupling coefficients will be very different. Additionally, many transformers can overheat and be damaged.
Center tap transformer is the such kind of transformer that is made to a point half way along a winding of a transformer.
Variable transformer may also refer as auto transformer. We can vary the output voltage of the transformer. But in the ordinary transformers output voltage is already designed.
The clue is in the name - variable.
The Linear Variable Differential Transformer is a type of electrical transformer used for measuring linear displacement. A counterpart to this device that is used for measuring rotary displacement is called a Rotary Variable Differential Transformer.
A transformer
An autotransformer (not 'auto transformer') is notnecessarily a variable-output transformer. It merely means that part of its winding is common to both the primary and secondary circuit. Variable-output transformers, such as the laboratory 'variac', has its voltage-ratio varied by means of a wiper -similar to that of a variable resistor.
A variable transformer is particularly important when it comes to the installation of alternative energy supplies such as solar panels. One can purchase a variable transformer from Allied electronics and other electrical stores, or from sites such as eBay or Amazon.
The linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) is a type of electrical transformer used for measuring linear displacement.
The device used to increase or decrease the voltage of an electric circuit is a step up transformer or a step down transformer respectively. A Variable Resistor
A transformer. it steps up / down voltage, and steps down / up current.
25 kV.A for a permanent load; more if the load is variable.
The abbreviation LVDT stands for "Linear Variable Differential Transformer". In common usage, it is also just called a differential transformer, and measures linear displacement, i.e. movement.
