An ABS brake is another term for an antilock brake, a brake fitted to some vehicles to prevent skidding and compensate for overbraking.
ABS - stands for Anti-lock Braking System. Basically - when the brake pedal is pressed, a computer circuit quickly applies and releases the brakes (many times a second). This almost eliminates skidding, bringing the vehicle to a safe stop.
