An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a device that is similar to a medical defibrillator expect that is it designed to be used by the public with very little knowledge. Most people who use an AED are trained on how to use it, but it isn't always that case. On an AED, you attach the paddles to the victim, and press the "Start" button on the AED. The AED will give loud and clear instructions on what to do.

An Automated External Defibrillator, commonly referred to as an AED, is an emergency device which is used to diagnose and treat two life threatening heart arrythmias (ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia). If an AED finds a person to be in one of the rhythms above, it will deliver an electrical shock in an attempt to establish an effective heart rhythm. Most current AEDs have simple visual and/or auditory instructions to instruct a layperson on how to use the equipment and can be found in many places (schools, malls, churches).
