An iPod 2G MC model comes with the newer 3.1.3 / 3.1.2 / 3.1.1 software. there is virtually no difference except for the MC model is harder to jail break.
to check if your ipod Touch 2G is an MC model, go to SETTINGS, GENERAL, ABOUT. scroll down till you see 'Model'. is the code next to it begins with the letters MC, then it is an MC Model.
