Disordered eating is a loose term used to describe a broad range of people who do not have "normal" eating habits. The habits are not severe enough to be considered "eating disorders", per say.

It is not always simple to spot when someone close to you is suffering from an eating disorder. Lies, games and tricks are used to convinces people that the person in question is fine. However, noticing one of the following signs is a way to warning to pay closer attention:

  • Sudden, rapid weight loss or gain
  • Eliminating whole groups of food from a diet
  • Unwilling to eat meals together as before
  • Frequent mood swings and depression

I think you might be referring to the binge eating disorder which is when a person will consume thousands of calories, but will not purge any of the food they have eaten.
