In the motion picture industry a screen name is a moniker or pseudonym that is used in place of the actor's real name. People would change their name for stage or screen because their real name may have been difficult to pronounce, was unattractive, to long or was ethnically revealing. Some famous screen names: John Wayne was born Marion Morrison. Gary Grant was born Archibald Alexander Leach. A young Arnold Schwarzenegger was told he needed to use a screen name because his name was to long, to difficult to pronounce and was ethnically revealing. He refused. Thus breaking the Hollywood myth that using a name like Schwarzenegger would be a detriment to his career.
