How would you repair a old slated roof when it has a bad leak and the roof is unstrudy?

Slate is heavy, if the roof is not sturdy it must be fixed before it caves in. Personally, I would remove the old slate being carefull not to break the undamaged ones, these can be sold for at least $1.00 each slate. then you must fix the trusses resheet the roof and apply a modern roofing system such as ashpalt, or plastic shingles. There is no cheap or easy fix for this problem.

Can roof shingles be installed in freezing temp?

I've installed them in freezing temps. before. There are some issues that arise, however. The first is blowing the nails through the shingle, unless you have them hand driven. Another is warping after the temp. rises in spring. Laminate ashpalt shingles become more labor intensive to cut to size. Lastly, if you experience high winds before they have a chance to seal together, you risk shingles breaking off. There are many underlayment products which will waterproof your building until better weather comes along.

Can you lay asphalt in wet weather?

not recommended but it can be done. I live in London Ontario Canada, all our asphalt plants close in the winter. if you have a plant open then make sure all your preperation is done before you pick up the hot mix so that it is as hot as possible when you pave. remove all the standing water, level, compact base. if you are paving over existing ashpalt, dry it as much as possible with a 30 thousand BTU tiger toarch and aply "coalash" to the edges with an old broom, once you start to rake and compress the hotmix you must work fast in cold weather so make sure all your tools are in place before you start, keep the compacting machine idling so there are no issues with start up. good luck

What is the best diesel truck?

You have 3 different truck choices to choose from, and 3 different diesel engines to choose from. It's all up to you. I prefer Ford's 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8. I'll help you make a decision. Read below. FORD 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8 - Ford really has confidence in this new engine. They have gave over 20 trucks with this engine out to Halliburton, Florida Power and Light Company, Reynolds Ashpalt Company, K&K Ranch, and Texop Construction. So far the trucks have around 30,000 miles and no problems. The engine really looks good on paper, but only time will tell to see how well this new engine is. I myself really have confidence in it. (note: Ford's diesel is no longer made by Navistar/International. Ford is building their own in-house diesel engine now.) CHEVROLET/GMC 6.6L LML Duramax Turbo Diesel V8 - This also is a new engine. It produces slightly more power than the 6.7L Powerstroke from Ford but who knows which engine really is better. I feel that General Motors is finally catching up to making a good truck like Ford has been doing for over 50 years. This new 6.6L Duramax should be a good engine, but once again, only time will tell how good this engine is. DODGE 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 - I have no doubt that Dodge and the 6.7L Cummins can't even hold a candle to Ford and GM's diesels. The 6.7L Cummins is known for many problems. I'll name a few: mushrooming heads, turbo failure, clogged DPF (diesel particulate filter), cooling manifold failure, bad fuel economy, etc. Also, Chrysler and Dodge's quality ratings are down and it really shows when you put some wear and tear on to a Dodge pickup truck. Like I said above, I am prefering Ford's new 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel. (note: this was written Thursday, July 29, 2010 at approximetly 9:54 PM.)
