Black, ground. Red, battery plus. Green, right channel audio (plus black for the negative speaker lead), white, Left channel audio (plus black for negative speaker lead). This is assuming that you're talking about a car stereo you're trying to install.
iPod, stereo, radio
Computers normally have a 3.5mm jack socket as an audio output. Most stereo systems have phono (RCA) connectors for signal inputs. To connect a laptop to a stereo system you will need a 3.5mm jack to RCA lead. They can be purchased in most electronics stores or on line. Most audio systems have a selection of inputs. If there is a choice, you can use any input that is marked "aux", "line in", "CD", "DVD", "Tape". If there is an input marked as "phono" that will be the one input that you cannot use successfully.
Assuming you mean a TIA/EIA 568A to B (or B to A), these carry digital data that cannot be used by an audio receiver. If you want to transfer audio, the laptop probably has a stereo 3.5 mm socket for each of its audio in and out, so you'll need a lead (or leads) with 3.5 mm plug(s) at one end, and the plugs your audo gear uses at the other - most likely RCA connectors.

Most DVD recorders have Audio and video output sockets on the back. Use the Left and Right audio out and connect to a recorder. These days most people will want the audio stored digitally. You can use a patch lead that combines the two RCA connector to a single stereo 3.5mm jack plug, use the jack plug in the mic socket of your computer and record using windows recorder or equivalent. You can also buy dedicated MP3 recorders that accept analogue inputs, or use a capture card or dongle.
