technology at present is fairly new and therefore fairly basic. Low battery life means 1) you are limited on the speed it will be able to reach
2) you are limited on the distance it will be able to go
The technology behind how it generates electricity is also fairly new. Also if the look of car is an important factor when you buy, electric cars tend to look very big and futuristic, which is not to everybodys tastes.
