In Scotland, Jacqueline Wilson fell in love with a printer called William Millar Wilson. He then joined the police force and the couple moved south for his work, marrying in 1965 when Wilson was 19. Two years later, they had a daughter, Emma. Obviously William Millar Wilson was Jacqueline Wilson's best friend and companion.

"Best Friends" by Jacqueline Wilson is about two girls, Gemma and Alice, who have been best friends since birth but start to drift apart when they go to different schools. They struggle to maintain their friendship while dealing with their own personal challenges and conflicts. It explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and growing up.

Basically, it is about two girls called Alice and Gemma, who have been friends all their lives. They were even born on the same day.

Alice is a girly girl and likes make-up and clothes and stuff, but Gemma is a tom-boy and hates dresses and girly things. She'd prefer sport.

But one day, Alice is really quite and doesn't speak much to Gemma, so Gemma reads Alice's diary. She finds out that Alice is keeping a secret from her. And it turns out that that secret is that Alice is going to move to Scotland because her mum is interested in a house there and her dad wants a job there.

So they try to run away with a stash of Alice's money and Golden Syrup, the teddy bear. They nearly catch the train to London but it turns out that Billy McVitie, known as Biscuits, who goes to their school, caught them and snitched on them, so Alice and Gemma couldn't stop Alice going to Scotland.

Gemma was really upset when Alice left, and her family did there best to cheer her up. Granddad gave her secret stashes of cake before dinner and Gemma's brothers gave her presents. Biscuits' did his best to be friendly to Gemma, so they became good mates.

When Gemma couldn't send letters or phone Alice any more, they emailed each other via using Alice's new friend Flora's email account. Gemma always wrote at the start for Flora not to read the message, but it was obvious that she was going to. Alice always talked about what was going on and how she missed Gemma, but mostly she chatted about Flora. How she was so kind and pretty and slim and gorgeous and friendly. This made Gemma a little jealous.

One day, Granddad needed to go up to Scotland to help an old lady - so he also offered for Gemma to go with him so that she could meet Alice and stay over for tea. On that very same day, Flora was visiting Alice, and it made the trip turn into a disaster. Flora hogged Gemma's favourite things, and accused her of being hopeless and childish. Gemma put up with Flora's remarks because she was on her very best behaviour - but when they had tea everything went to pieces. Gemma had made a cake with Biscuits especially for Alice, and she wanted them to share a special wish, but when Flora started to cut the cake, Gemma thrust the cake into Flora's face. Gemma had also given Alice her Grandma's doll, which Flora personalised, but before Gemma left to go home Alice put it back to normal and tried to give it back.

At the end, when it was the girls' birthday, Gemma tried her best to forget about Alice, because she didn't send her a card. But later, Alice sent Gemma a package, which ensured that they would remain best friends forever.

I hope you like my summary! This is my favourite book by Jacqueline Wilson.
