For experience, iron is definitely faster experience - especially if you mine it and drop it. For money, hard to say - the market situation (Grand Exchange prices) varies, so does the number of players that compete with you at the mines. I guess you should just try out how much you get per hour with each. I would estimate that both give you about the same amount of money.
You need level 30 mining to mine Coal in Runescape.
You get 50 mining experience for every coal you mine.
To mine coal in RuneScape you need a pickaxe and the required level to mine it. Then all you have to do is equip or carry the pickaxe and click on the rock containing coal. If you do not know what a rock contains then right-click the rock and select to 'prospect' option. You will then be informed as to what is in the rock.
Training on coal at seers coal mine is probably the best way to get it faster.

It gives 50 experience each time it it mined. A full inventory with 27 slots (minus 1 assuming a pickaxe is in the inventory) gives a total of 1350 experience with 28 slots (wielding a pickaxe) gives 1400 experience.

you have to find iron ore in caves underground and occasionally on the surface, then get a furnace and smelt it. you will need wood or coal to power the furnace and 8 cobblestone to make the furnace
