It's kind of hard to tell, since published figures include things like parking areas and areas inaccessible to the public, but based on a rough eyeball estimate from Google Maps, it appears that Disneyland is noticeably larger. There's certainly a lot more "stuff" in Disneyland. Legoland is nice if you want to look at LEGO bricks made into (admittedly pretty impressive) replicas of things. If you're more interested in number (and, frankly, quality) of rides, Disneyland is the clear winner if you're not a very young child. If what really trips your trigger is more extreme "thrill" rides, then give both of them a pass and go to Knott's Berry Farm (which has the added bonus of not being terribly far from Disneyland) or Six Flags Magic Mountain; a lot of both the Disneyland and Legoland rides are really geared towards younger children and your high school kids may not be terribly impressed (Disneyland's "Mountains" ... Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, the Matterhorn ... aren't bad coasters, but they're at least as much about the theming as they are about the actual roller coaster).
