With the car running and level loosen the Allen bolt in bottom of the trans pan, if nothing comes out then remove the breather cap on the left front of the trans just above the pan and add fluid until it comes out the hole the Allen bolt was removed. Reinstall the Allen bolt and breather cap. Breather cap fits tight but just pulls off.
Can the car run without fuel tank breather?
i don't know about older cars but newer ones the tank is actually sealed and is under a vacuum. Basically, no they won't. On automobiles they usually have the fuel cap as the breather. There's usually a small hole or something in the cap. You need something to replace the gas as it leaves. Older cars either vented the fumes to the air or into an "Evaperative Canister". Basically just a can with some charcoal in it to absorb the gas fumes as it expands and contracts and then it has a small hose going to the intake system to be used by the motor to keep the air clean. "Some" of the newer cars have a sealed system that takes care of all that automatically. You have to be careful when replacing a lost fuel cap as some need the cap to have an air bleed hole to let air into the tank. If you put a sealed system type fuel cap on a non-sealed system it will prevent the fuel from flowing.

The first and easy thing to check is that the fuel filler cap is breathing properly. Do this by stageing the fault condition (go driving) then pull over and open the fuel filler cap- see if you notice a vaccum breaking with a great rush of air. filler caps when working properly have a tinny breather hole that keep the air (if any) in your tank at atmospheric pressure.
Why would gas leak out of lawn mower cap area?
I assume you are referring to the cap on the fuel tank. The cap has a vent hole so the tank will not create a vaccum as it delivers duel to the engine. If the tank is half-full or more, vibration caused by using the implement will casue the fuel to "splash" within the fuel tank and also "splash" out trhough the vent hole. Check the inside of the fuel cap to see if the diaphragm is worn or missing and replace the cap if necessary.
