It is not smoke. It is steam. Moisture is making the gurgling sound and moisture coming in contact with a warmer surface (the coil) is evaporating making steam.

A "gurgling" sound on the right side of the navel is due to digestion and is completely normal.
It sounds like it might be in your coolant system. heater core maybe? Or maybe a sticking thermostat.

If I understand your question correctly, your indoor fan motor is the one not running. If that is the case, the gurgling sound you are hearing is the refrigerant being pumped into the indoor coil. You need a new motor. If this is a gas furnace, you need a 115V motor; if it is a heatpump, you need a 230V motor.
