Black soot is a sign of too much fuel (rich mixture). This can be caused by a number of problems, examples fuel pressure regulator,02 sensors, coolanttemperature sensor, intake air temperature sensor ect.If your engine is running too rich you should be able to smell fuel in the engine oil, that can damage engine bearings. You would also have some black smoke out the exhaust pipe.If the black stuff on your plugs is oily, this from either worn valve guides or (seals)or worn piston oil control rings.Excessive burning of oil will be blue smoke out the exhaust.
