Your little Neon is a front wheel drive. There are two constant velocity joints on each axle. When they wear out as they normally do after about one hundred thousand miles and up, they begin to click whenever you turn the front wheels left or right. The clicking eminates from between the wear surfaces of the drive components and can get quite loud.
If you aren't particularly gifted at mechanical work you will definitely want a good shop to do the replacement for you. Don't delay-it'll only cost more later.........Good luck and God bless.
Check the brakes for worn pads. The pad backer scraping the rotor is the most common cause of this type of noise.
im not sure but in my 2000 Plymouth neon my alternator has been making squeeking noises in the morning when its cold and just recently its been making a clicking noise as the engine is ruvving down or sometime ruvving up, not sure if that has to do with the alternator
I had the same thing happen in my 1998 Plymouth Neon and after talking to some other users, I have come to the conclusion that it can be considered normal in Neon cars. It seems to happen to everyone owning a Neon.
there is a possibility that you have a malfunctioning master cylinder. my dodge neon ate up two sets of pads/rotors and drums before we found that the master cylinder was causing the brakes to stick.
If the hum is more like a whirring or spinning noise, the starter drive, also known as bendix, needs to be replaced.
it is possible to be the brakes or the transmission have it checked by a mechanic.

If the brakes works it will stop UFDA
You should have your brakes cleaned! Or have a mechanic look to make sure nothing is wrong. My neon does this and after driving a while it stops. Sometimes rust, dust and dirt particals get on the drums !!
