My AnswerBatteries go dead because there is an electrical draw on them. And even a brand new battery can be faulty.

Steps to track down the problem:

  1. Check the battery: disconnect and fully charge leave alone for an amount of time it would usually go dead in and recheck
  2. Reconnect your good battery to the car, now you need to go low tech or high tech

High tech

  1. Hook up you ammeter and check the draw on your battery it should settle down to about .01 amps but as high as .3 amps could be considered normal depending on alarm, stereo type and age of car etc. A 0.5 amp draw will kill your battery in a week or so
  2. Start removing fuses and check after each one to see if the draw falls noticeably Don't forget alarm and stereo amp. Once you know what the draw is you will need to repair the faulty item.

Low Tech

  1. Remove the fuses, using a test light between your positive battery terminal and the positive cable start plugging them in, what is killing your battery should get you test light to light even just dimly.
