It is Film (A bit like cling film) but it is made of the cellulose lining of plants.
So it completley natural and biodegradable, to create it they take woodpulp and turn it into a viscouse. They then do some chemical magic and you have the film.
it is because of it is made of cellulose lining of plants
A combination of various polymers are used such as Hydroxypropyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose and many others. These sustained release (XR, ER, SR) tablets may or may not be film coated as well.
cellulose is a polymer. it a chain of repeating monomers. the monomer for cellulose is glucose. cellulose is a polymer. it a chain of repeating monomers. the monomer for cellulose is glucose.

the first ever base was the cellulose nitrate but it flammable that contribute to the severe hospital fires during 1920's. it was then replaced by the cellulose triacetate which was not as flammable as cellulose nitrate. in the early 1960's it base was introduced. it is more resistant to warping and is stronger than the two other bases.
A cellulose sponge is made of, well, cellulose. Cellulose is the main component of plant cell walls, so many plant derived products are cellulose based. Wood is about 50% cellulose, paper and cardboard are almost entirely cellulose, and most plant fibers are mostly cellulose- cotton is about 90% cellulose. the wikipedia article is decent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellulose

A cinema is a motion-picture theater, a film is a strip of transparent material, usually cellulose triacetate, covered with a photographic emulsion and perforated along one or both edges, intended for the recording and reproduction of images.
