It all depends on what type of a person you are. Not having been to a private school, I can't speak for them, but I know they have a schedule similar to a public school (where you go 5 days a week & have homework), and that high grades are often pushed.

I currently attend a charter college prep school, but I assume you are referring to homeschooling charter school instead of the type I'm at. I was homeschooled almost all my life, it was great for me and I loved it. It allowed me to sleep in and get as much homework (or sometimes as little...) homework done as I wanted to. Charter programs work great for people who are self-motivated.

Charter schools often have more flexibility in curriculum and teaching methods, allowing for tailored approaches to student learning. They also tend to have smaller class sizes and more parental involvement, which can lead to a more focused and supportive learning environment.

I did research on this for my PhD and found that they aren't better than public schools. The test scores of the students stayed about the same and in some cases went down. I don't have the data on me right now, but if you want to post a message on here to me I can give you the actual figures and research sources.

Although it may not be initially obvious, grouping all charter schools together and comparing them to a grouping of all public schools in the US cannot possibly yield a valid comparison. Even the term "charter school" does not have a consistent meaning across the USA. To do a valid comparison you must compare a specific charter school to the public schools that draw from the same population. Some charter schools perform significantly above the public schools the students would otherwise attend. Some charter schools amount to little more than a con game for the public education dollars and do a dismal job even compared to those public schools that are failing. The factors where charter schools MAY have an advantage over public schools are when there is more local control of the school, where parental involvement is higher (just to get a child into a charter school usually requires a lot more effort on the part of a parent than just sending them to a public school would so parents of charter school students tend to be more involved on average than parents of public school students), and it is easier to remove teachers who really aren't getting the job done. Where charter schools are not just dumping grounds for kids who have been kicked out of public schools (my daughter taught at a school like that in Ohio), the quality of the students tends to be a little better, not necessarily smarter or richer, but more committed. Discipline MAY be easier at a charter school if the laws where they operate allow it. Curriculum can be more tailored or flexible than in public schools where a school board may set the curriculum for many more schools without allowing flexibility at individual schools.

Note that all the things mentioned are just things that a charter school MAY do better than public schools - many do NOT do things any better - as the first poster noted.

Do public schools have more opportunities than private school?

It depends on the specific schools and their resources. Public schools may offer a wider range of programs and services due to government funding, while private schools may have smaller class sizes and specialized resources. Ultimately, opportunities can vary based on individual school offerings and priorities.

What is the difference between a public school and a private school?

Public schools are funded by the government and open to all students in a specific geographic area, while private schools are independently funded and can be selective in the students they admit. Public schools are obligated to follow state education regulations, while private schools have more flexibility in their curriculum and policies.

Are Catholic schools more difficult than public schools that have a harder curriculum and are well funded?

The difficulty level of a school is not solely determined by whether it is Catholic or public. Different schools, whether Catholic or public, can have varying levels of academic rigor and resources. It ultimately depends on the specific school's curriculum, faculty quality, and resources, rather than just the type of school.

What are the chances that you will get a better education in private schools than public?

Private schools may offer smaller class sizes, specialized programs, and additional resources that can enhance the educational experience compared to public schools. However, the quality of education can vary widely between individual schools, and public schools can also provide a high-quality education depending on the location and resources available. Ultimately, the value of education in private versus public schools may depend on the specific needs and priorities of the student and their family.

How are charter schools different from public schools?

A magnet school receives more funds than traditional public schools. They do not hire teachers on their own, and they are fully governed by the school system. A charter school is created by a group of individuals and it does not have to follow all the laws of the school system. There are regulations; however, to which it must adhere. Charter schools may hire on their own. In charter schools, parents usually must volunteer a certain number of hours throughout the school year.

What is the difference between public school and a charter school?

Charter schools are public schools. Traditional public schools cover standard curriculum and educational practices. Charter schools typically specialize in one form of instructional theory, curriculum, or other educational practice. Charter school attendance is limited to size (where public school attendance is not so much so limited), so once that limit is reached, some students may be added to a waiting list. Some people have the impression that charter schools are private schools. Not so. The "charter" in the name refers to the private or public institution that sponsors the school. In most states, it is necessary for that sponsorship to be "chartered" through an approved state university.

WHAT does charter mean in charter schools?

Charter schools are independent PUBLIC schools. They are TUITION-FREE and open to all students. In Minnesota, the home of the charter school movement, charter schools must be approved to operate by the state department of education and are part of the state system of public education. Each charter school is legally like a small public school district. Charter schools are FOR PROFIT and are governed by a board of directors elected from among teachers, parents and interested community members. They are not privately "owned" and do generate a profit for investors more than any other public school district. Some charter school boards hire for-profit companies to perform management functions just as they hire for-profit companies to provide other operational services. Teachers in Minnesota charter schools must meet the same licensing requirements as all other public school teachers, although the value of this is dubious, and this is not a requirement in all states. As with all public schools, charter schools are primarily funded with public monies (tax dollars), however, almost uniformly across the country they receive less money per student (sometimes significantly less) than district schools. Charter schools are allowed some freedoms that district schools are not, and in return they are held to a higher standard of academic and financial accountability. Unlike district schools, under-performing or financially insolvent charter schools can be dissolved almost immediately. Charter schools offer programs, curricula, pedagogies, schedules and services that traditional district schools choose not to provide. Their only goal is to improve the academic performance of their students, along with generating profit for their investors.

Why do parents pull their children out of charter schools and put them back into public schools?

== == Parents who care about the education of their child will look for the ideal situation for their child. Sometimes a child has issues on either end of the spectrum (behavior or intelligence) which cause them difficulty in a public school setting. Public schools, especially larger districts, are not always ideal. A charter school can offer a better option - without having to pay private school tuition. However, and this is from personal experience, sometimes the charter school - for whatever reason - is not able to deliver the programs and services - such as individual attention and gifted programs - it advertises (and they do advertise, because they are a business - a business using public funds). We took our child out of a charter school after 1/2 of 4th grade because it was not the environment promoted by the school when we enrolled. But, we did not put our child back in public school. We thought about it. Then we thought about our reasons for leaving the public school system and we decided to put him in private school for the rest of the year. We will decide about public school when and if we need to. He is happier in the private school than he was in public or charter - that's the most important part of the equation. What works for the child? Sometimes charter schools can be the answer. You don't know unless you try.

Where can I find information regarding Charter Schools in the US?
