dear friends The term "children of the book " ( which is actually ahlalkitab means people of the book ) refers to the Jews and Christians. God almighty is addressing them in Holy Quran several times as the people of the book in order to remind them that this book (Quran) is not new thing but you have given books before through messengers but you have adulterated them and gone astray from the right path. Now God has sent His final message on Mohammad and whatever good was there in previous revealed books has been preserved and what was wrong has been deleted. So O people of the book if you really love to know the true message of God's messengers then it is there in the Quran. Read it sincerely and there you will find jems and jwells of wisdom and truth.

ISLAM is the primary religion that uses and studies the Qur'an قرآن as its primary holy book. There are other Post-Islamic Religions like Baha'i and Druze, which developed out of Islam (hence the term Post-Islamic) that have high regard for the Qur'an and do use it on occasion, but only as a lesser source to their own unique holy books. (In the case of the Baha'i, the key holy book is the Kitab-i-Aqdas كتاب الأقدس and in the case of the Druze, the key holy book is the Kitab al-Hikma كتاب الحكمة.)
