Sometimes, people will take time off work to search for a personal guru and develop a special devotion to them. The person may submit to spiritual instruction from their guru for a certain time before returning to their everyday life.
• Swamis - very learned men who have studied the scriptures and developed their spiritual practice to a very high level. Many have set up ashrams, retreat houses, that develop into colleges or universities where people can stay to study religious philosophy and meditation for a period of time.
• Sannyasins - wandering holy men who have left their worldly responsibilities behind. They seek spiritual enlightenment, but may offer some words of wisdom to those who support them in their homeless lives.
