You clear code 42 just as you clear any other code. Disconnect the battery cable from the battery for 30 seconds, then reconnect. (It's good practice to disconnect the battery cable whenever disconnecting or changing any electrical components.) Afterwards, check the "check engine light" to see if the code 42 is cleared. This answer applies only to '95 and older models (OBD-1).
