TO operate a pit saw two (2) sawyers are needed. They work as a team. A tree trunk is mounted on trestles and is sawed by the team. One (1) man stands on top of the log, and the other stands in the pit below.
My foundry in WI is classifing it as a journeyman molder. His specific duties would include the making of the actual molds themselves to the core to go in them (whether they be no-bake, shell, or SO2 core) or fitting and pasting core together and mudding them and gauging them for areas that can not be sawed or sanded.
I did it the easy way. I bought a BRASS compression coupling (Plumbing supply House) , Plastic won't take the tightening required for a pressure seal. I just hack sawed off the "tee" part and connected the 2 straight sections with the Brass coupler. I have replaced my Well Saver LPT20 twice over the years with this technique. They tend to rust out underneath at the weld after several years.
