"Wire" and "cable" are terms often used interchangeably, but they refer to different things in the context of electrical and electronic systems.

Wire:

.A wire is a single, solid or stranded conductor typically made of copper or aluminum.

.It is used to carry electrical current from one point to another.

.Wires are often categorized by gauge (thickness), with smaller gauge numbers indicating thicker wires.

.Common applications include connecting components on a circuit board, making electrical connections within devices, or for simple point-to-point wiring.

Cable:

**.**A cable, on the other hand, is a group of wires bundled together, often surrounded by an insulating sheath

**.**Cables can consist of multiple conductors, each with its own insulation, and may also include additional components such as shielding, filler materials, or protective layers.

**.**Cables are used for transmitting electrical signals or power over longer distances and are more structured and organized than individual wires.

Types of cables include power cables, data cables (such as Ethernet cables), and coaxial cables, each designed for specific applications.

In summary, while a wire is a single conductor, a cable is a collection of wires bundled together with additional features to serve specific purposes. Cables are more complex and are used for transmitting signals or power over longer distances, while wires are simpler and often used for more localized connections.

Can you get shocked by a fiber optic cable?

Actually you can, I found this out the hard way. I was having problems with my cable and internet and had a service man come out but he could not find the trouble so I took some advice he had on setting up my splitters in a different way to increase my reception. While unhooking the cable wires I got a shock. I disconnected that wire and hooked everything back up and this seemed to solve the problem so I thought. The next morning I was on the internet and it shut off again. I went back in the attic to see what I could see since the cable guy didn't check up there. What did I find? I had a electrical wire and a cable wire next to each other when I went to move the wires I found a squirrel had chewed threw both the cable wire and electrical wire and they where touching so the current went threw the cable wire threw the house to the equipment and to me.
