Italy is the home country- the capital of Roman Catholicism, and Rome itself has over 400 churches. Some are head houses of various societies or religious orders ( such as Jesuits, Dominicans, etc) and thus are headquarters congregations- and not Parish churches in the usual sense- but Roman Catholic Churches they are. New York City has at least two churches ( the Capuchin church near Penn Station) and also Saint Francis of Assisi- also in the same general neighborhood. there is no question of overlap of parish functions as these are, as stated before ( Headquarters churches) or head offices of the Franciscan and Capuchin orders ( the Capuchins, by the way, are an off-shoot of the Franciscans. so it goes.
