∙ 11y agoA common misconseption is that emo simply means emotional. That's right to a degree, but also completely wrong. Emo means emotive hardcore, a genre that evolved from the DC hardcore punk movement. When it evolved into it's own subculture, people started misunderstanding the whole thing, and it recieved much hate. When people call each other "emo", they probably mean "a crying baby who cuts himself" though that's not even close to the correct meaning.
