what are the federal states in Ghana
federate (in Australia)
I don't think the word Federate was ever widely used. The two sides were the Federals (the North, or officially the USA) and the Confederates (the Southern breakaway group of states, the CSA.)
The Union Army was fighting to preserve the federate states vs the confederate states
The federate forces were typically commanded by leaders known as "dukes" or "magistri militum" in the context of the late Roman Empire. These commanders were often military leaders who held significant power and authority over various groups of federates, who were allied tribes or groups that provided military support to the Roman state. The specific leader would depend on the historical period and context in which the federate forces were active.
Pohnpei Island is the largest island of the Federate States of Micronesia. It is also the most populated, and the highest island of the Federate States of Micronesia.

The separation of Powers is an model for the government of both democratic and federate states.
On 1 January 1901, the Federation of Australia was brought into existence. The Australian colonies were joined to form the Commonwealth of Australia. The state of the Commonwealth of Australia was born with a vote to Federate with the Australian British colonies.
'Federate' sounds like a mix of Federal and Confederate. The Confederates were the breakaway Southern states. What was left of the USA was called the Union - also called the Federals. There were many battles between North and South. The war was eventually won by the Union.
