To answer this question the pump's voltage is needed.
1 hp is 746 watts but you have to allow extra for losses. So for 1.5 hp you need about 1400 watts to be supplied, which at 12 v is a current of 117 amps. A car battery is about 40 amp-hours therefore 3 batteries would be needed, connected in parallel, 4 to be sure. Also needed is an inverter to convert 12 v to the voltage of the pump motor, and AC 50/60 Hz if that is what it needs.

It would depend on how deep your well is, and how efficient the pump.
The flow of 5 hp motor pump is around 90 GPM.
hp to drve a pump=GPM X PSI/1714 X .85 PUMP EFFICENCY
There is no such thing as a 1.5 pump. - Pumps are rated in gpm and inches. If the pump end is 4" , it will fit any 4 " Franklin motor.
12-2 can easily support a 220V 1.5 HP pump out to 200Ft. However you may need a separate #8 ground wire in some states.

Determine how many gallons of water your swimming pool holds. You will also need to consider what size filter that you have. If you have an undersized filter to pump it can create filtration and circulation problems. Be sure to look at the turnover rate for your pump and filter that you are considering. If you have an aboveground pool most pump and filters are sold as a pre-sized set.
The 230v breaker is 2-pole, The 115v is only single-pole so YES you need a new breaker. DON'T use 2 single-pole breakers instead. The well pump will run to the pressure setting of the pressure switch controlling it, regardless of HP. The difference might be in the size of the pump in flow rating, I.E. a 1/2 HP pump rated at 10gpm @ 70 psi won't perform the same as a 3/4 HP pump rated at 20 gpm @ 50 psi. Check the pump curve and pressure switch setting. The pressure switch for the new pump will need both power leads connected to the switch (1 lead per contact set), not 1 wire as the 115v motor was.
