한류 Hallyu refers to the spread of Korean pop culture that began in the late 1990s. The phrase, "韓流," was coined by Beijing journalists who were surprised at the popularity level of Korean cultural exports. The phrase literally means "the flow of Korea" or the "Korean flow." The hallyu force is even stronger today than it was in the 1990s with fans of Korean entertainment spreading all over the world, in big part, due to all the numerous YouTube videos regarding Korean entertainment.
Hallyu is not limited to entertainment of K-pop, K-dramas, and films but also culture.
The spreading of Korean language, technology (especially with smartphones and cars), and the culture are all part of Hallyu.
i think South Korea is famous for the technology, the culture, the 38th parallel, the hallyu wave and lots of other things.
It's not just Cambodia. A thing called the 'Hallyu wave' has swept all over Asia. A Korean pop star is referred to as a 'Hallyu star', and they're extremely popular with Asian teenagers.
Hye-gyong oe Chong has written: 'Hallyu ui suyong kwa Hangugo kyoyuk'

The movements of Korea refer to various social, political, and cultural movements throughout its history, including the independence movement against Japanese colonial rule, the democratization movements in the late 20th century, and contemporary movements advocating for peace and reunification between North and South Korea. Additionally, there are significant cultural movements, such as the Korean Wave (Hallyu), which promotes Korean music, film, and fashion globally. These movements reflect the evolving identity and aspirations of the Korean people in response to both internal and external challenges.
There is no exact date or time when K-Pop got popular, but we can see it spreading overseas and to many different countries because of something called the Hallyu Wave. K-Pop was really started by Seo Taiji and the Boys, and they were what broke away from older Korean music. As time went on, many of the more popular bands such as DBSK and H.O.T were able to reach a larger audience. DBSK in particular broke the world record for the largest amount of fans in their fan base- and that was only the number counted- there were still hundreds and thousands who hadn't been counted. DBSK was a pretty revolutionary group that were able to show a significant difference in the amount of people that listened to K-Pop. Overtime, as K-Pop evolved, more bands such as Super Junior and SNSD released songs such as Mr.Simple and Gee (which hold the most amount of views for a kpop MV on Youtube) which were catchy and spread to many audiences- pulling many into the fandom. Additionally, I guess K-Pop really got a lot more popular as the various groups started interacting a lot more with their overseas fans such as promoting in Japan and China, as well as going on tour to many different countries and speaking in english. So yeah c: There's no exact date or time when K-Pop got popular, but it was definitely an evolution :D
Korea has had a significant influence on the world in various ways. Korean pop culture, known as Hallyu, has gained international popularity through music, films, and television dramas, spreading Korean cultural trends worldwide. Korean technology companies, such as Samsung and LG, have become global leaders in industries like electronics and smartphones. Additionally, Korean cuisine, including dishes like kimchi and bibimbap, has gained worldwide recognition and popularity.
Korean culture has been greatly influenced by its history of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Neo-Confucianism, which emphasize principles of respect for elders, education, and harmony. The division of Korea into North and South after World War II has also influenced aspects of modern Korean culture, leading to differences in politics, economy, lifestyle, and cultural expression between the two regions. Additionally, the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, has brought Korean pop culture to global audiences, resulting in increased interest in Korean language, food, music, and TV dramas worldwide.
Since the mid-1970s, the West has significantly influenced China, Japan, and Korea through economic liberalization, technology transfer, and cultural exchange. China opened up its economy with reforms initiated by Deng Xiaoping, leading to increased foreign investment and integration into the global market. Japan experienced Western influence through trade and technology, which helped it become a major economic power. Meanwhile, South Korea embraced Western culture and practices, transforming its economy and society, particularly through the "Korean Wave" (Hallyu), which popularized Korean culture globally.
Some people believe it is because of PSY. People became familiarized with K-Pop because of him. But another theory is basically where J-Pop ruled in the late 1990's, K-Pop started taking over. Does that makes sense? The first ever K-Pop group was Seo Taiji and Boys in 1991. He started the Hallyu Wave (in other words, he started kpop). So basically alot of people that were J-Pop fans turned to K-Pop fans. Other people say they like it because of the dances or the people, but I believe it's just a mixture of everything.
Hallyu Wave. and Youtube.. Korean music is HUGE in pretty much every part of the world... SM TOWN live is in Paris coming up soon and It sold out really fast. K-pop is pretty popular on youtube.
