Best Answer

Homeostasis is the body's natural regulation systems that maintain the balance of things like temperature, pH etc. In the mind, fundamentally we're born to secure food, water, etc. that maintain the body's requirements and the body will tell the mind when it needs something to aid this.

As far as the increasing complex nature of the human mind is concerned as we grow older, we establish our own blueprints of what we accept to be 'normal' and our emotions tell us when our 'comfort zone' is being stretched so we can decide whether we want it to be stretched.
