First off...
It takes some time and patience to do this job, so dont start this with only an hour before you need to leave for the inlaws.
List of things you will need:
5/8" spark plug socket and a few different length extenders along with a swivel joint or two.
New platinum tipped spark plugs and wires if you wish to change them too.
Some canned air, WD40 and a flashlight will come in handy too.
When changing out the plugs, make sure not to try and force a plug to loosen TO HARD. Use some WD40 or liquid wrench to help loosen it. Otherwise you run risk of breaking a plug off, and then youve got real issues. After its loosen and before you pull it out, use the canned air to clean out the plug hole.
After you have removed a plug use the canned air again to blow clean the plug hole even further.
Use a little clean oil or WD40 to lube the plugs threads. Dont over tighten the plugs but make sure they are snug.
If you are changing wires with the plugs, disconnect only 1 at a time. This will ensure you put the right wire to the right plug.
When you reach the plugs near the back of the engine, take your time, use the swivels and you shall reach your goal, and save a boatload of cash!
I did a tune up!! runs great
50,000 dollars
every time you change or tune up your truck.
The cost of a tune up will depend on the area you live in and the cost of living. A tune up should cost somewhere in the range of $30 - $200.
Have vehicle scanned and codes cleared
That vehicle uses platinum tipped spark plugs. We recommend every 60,000 miles.
No more than any other "regular" tuneups.
Depending on the local shop or dealers... I have a 98 Ford Expedition XLT - 4.6L and I got a quote for $600.00 at a shop... So I decided to due it myseft... It took me almost 4 hours to due...
needs new spark plugs and tune up
Auto-Tune was created in 1997.
I had the same problem on mines 98 Ford Expedition 4.6L . It ended been a simple tune up of plugs and wires. If it is a 5.4L it maybe a bad coil pack. I would switch the bad coil with a good one and go from there.
I have had a complete tuneup done on a Ford Tempo for $150.00 -parts and laor.
