I have scoliosis(curvature of the spine)so I have had to have a countless # of MRIs.MRIs are extremely loud and unpleasant.Sometimes you have to have an IV put into your arm,but most of the time you don't.After laying down on the machine's bed it raises a couple feet and slowly goes into the machine.Once it goes inside, you have to stay COMPLETELY still. The entire process can take anywhere from 1 minute to 2 hours so they give you a squeeze ball that you squeeze if you need to take a bathroom break or just get some air.

No, not at all, nor do they hurt. The patient lies down on the 'bed', then the radiology technician glides the patient into the MRI scanning chamber. There will be a sound, similar to a lawn mower in a barrel, but not as loud. The process is completely comfortable, but if you are claustrophobic let them know and they can give you something to help keep you calm. However, if you are given something to calm you, you will probably have to have someone to drive you home afterwards.

Youll be asked to lie on a bed which slowly moves in to a short tunnel . This contains the magnets that are the scanning devices. There will be a noise as the scan moves around you. You will not see anything moving but you will here the device activate. It can be a little claustrophobic as you lie very still in a tunnel but its not really unpleasant

MRI scans look at the inside of the human body. The machines can be a little loud due to the magnetic activity used to produce the images of the inside of the body.
