Since we were born, all vital functions are managed by the Central Nervous System as an involuntary commandment. Bowels movement, heart pulsing, breathing, remain active throughout our lives. In the CNS there are specialized sectors commanding respiration, heartbeat, bowels movement. Our body doesn't need knowing that we have to breathe, but a part of our body, the brain, through the CNS, know that we can't stop breathing.
Your red blood cells in the blood stream have a larger attraction for carbon monoxide that they do for oxygen. Sure you can hold your breath - for maybe 90 seconds, before the autonomic system FORCES you to breathe, even when you're trying not to. The autonomic system causes your heart to beat, even when you aren't thinking about it.

These can also be signs of other serious conditions and should be checked out by your doctor!"
