An atlas or a map, more recently you can do the same with applications such as Google Earth
Almanac , or an atlas, or a map.
If you just want one set of numbers that kind of represent that whole city, and you don't need surveyor's precision that narrows it down to one corner of one room in one house on one street in one section of Calcutta, then a globe would be fine, and Google Earth would be even more fun.
There are various things you could use. A good map or globe could help. Google Earth would be another. Many websites will give you the coordinates. Wikipedia's page on Calcutta would. Sites like http://www.latlong.net would other options.
The easiest but least accurate way would be to look for it on a globe. My second choice would be to look it up in Google Earth, since all of my paper maps are buried in the back of my closet. If the power was out and I _NEEDED_ that info, I do have my old navigator's bag, which contains 40 years worth of National Geographic maps, plus many of the charts and atlases that I used as a professional navigator.
If none of these are available to you, every library in America (and most other places, as well) have atlases and maps that you can consult.

Latitude is 'north' or 'south', and longitude is 'east' or 'west', so there's a lot of ambiguity in this question. We're going to assume that it means 85 E longitude and 23 N latitude. That point is in eastern India, about 180 miles south-southwest of Patna, and 21 miles west-northwest of the center of Calcutta.
That's quite a fair estimate for any point in or around Calcutta. The center of the field at Eden Gardens cricket stadiumis located at22.5646° north latitude88.3433° east longitude, and the north end of Runway-19L at Netaji Subhash Chandra BoseInternational Airport is located at22.6709° north latitude88.4497° east longitude.
