Best Answer

the process of converting iron to a permanent magnet is called magnetization.

As iron is a ferro magnetic material it is magnetized by applying strong magnetic field across it , this makes the alignment of all the magnetic dipoles present in iron in the same direction .Even after the external magnetic field is removed they retain their arrangement , thus it becomes a permanent magnet

Why the magnetization current is not sinusoidal even though the input voltage is sinusoidal?

In ferromagnetic materials, such as electrical steel, the magnetisation curve is not a straight line,or else the relation B=μH is not linear ( μ is not constant),H is linear function of magnetization current, while B is linear function of input voltage ,so we have : Im=f(μ)U,where f(μ) is not constant,Im=magnetization (magnetizing) current, U=input voltage. I hope this will help.

What is cross magnetization?

In spirituality, cross magnetization occurs when two mediums treat a patient at the same time.In physics, specifically electromagnetism, cross magnetization occurs when the flux-density distribution of the magnetic field that's defining the neutral plane gets distorted by a secondary magnetic field, known as the armature field. This distorting effect, which effectually changes the direction of the neutral plane, is called the armature reaction drop, and is controlled by varying the current through whichever of the two magnetizing devices was designed as the electromagnet.

Is magnetization of iron a chemical reaction?

No, magnetization is not a chemical reaction. Magnetic iron and non-magnetic iron are chemically the same substance. Magnetization is a process of alignment of atomic magnetic fields, which is a purely physical change, not a chemical change.

Why is magnetization of iron a physical change?

Magnetizing doesn't involve a chemical reaction.

What happens to the domains in a piece of iron when it becomes magnetised?

The iron automatically divides into domains separately. It does not exist in a state when magnetization occurs in the same direction, in the entire material. This is to minimize its internal energy.
